The writing process can be done in many different ways, some say it’s a form of art. I have decided to compare Module 2 with the University of Kansas resource “Writing Process” by the KU Writing Center. The University of Kansas resource complements the concepts that are shown in Module 2 by displaying the importance of brainstorming and planning, utilizing multiple sources to strengthen your topic, and highlighting the significance of re-reading and re-writing an essay. In Module 2’s “Writing is a Process” video, the speaker lists books, the internet, and friends & family as primary or secondary sources. Utilizing all of these sources creates a large selection of information to come to an educated conclusion, leading to reliable sources in an essay. Lastly, the KU Writing Center’s “Writing Process”, strengthens Module 2’s perspective on the importance of re-reading and re-writing an essay. Kansas University’s writing center writes about the revision of a “finished” essay. The writing center lists different ways to revise your essay, those ways include, rearranging words and sentences, taking out or adding parts, and replacing unclear and overused words. The speaker in Module 2’s video “Writing is a Process” emphasizes that your first rough draft is going to be bad, which brings a sense of need for a writer to revise their essay. Another sublink in Module 2 called “Drafting” also backs up the idea of rewording ideas to make them more clear to the reader. Applying all this information together shows the significance of revision in an essay.
