Slang is defined as a group of words in the English language that are very informal (Funk and Wagnalls, 2014). Slang provides a straightforward way of speaking to society. Slang tends to be informal and can be seen as lazy. Slang is said to have originated from the subcultures in society (Funk and Wagnalls, 2014). Groups such as sports players, military, criminals and even different churches will have their own slang. With all these different types of slang it can be very easy to realize what subgroup people are apart of. With all these occupational classes using different slang, it becomes very complex to find a distinction between slang and a jargon. A jargon is set of particular vocab words created by a group of people (Funk and Wagnalls, 2014). These words are only partially understood by people who are not in the subgroup. Jargons are very commonly used between doctors, teachers, bankers, and many other professions. The term jargon can also be used to characterize a conversation full of gibberish and unintelligible language (Funk and Wagnalls, 2014). I will use slang to help the students feel more comfortable around me, but I still want to keep their respect. Mazer and Hunt (2008) cautions people that even though their findings support the use of slang there are still many variables that need to be researched. This study only focused on a male teachers use of slang, other variables that may need to be tested inclue: age, sex, and the communication style used by the speaker. Even with all of these factors unstudied I still want to include slang in my classroom. I have had personal experiences with teachers using slang and I felt like I had a much greater bond with these teachers. I found it much easier to talk to and relate with teacher who used slang around
