In John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men”, Lennie and George travel together to work. They discuss the trouble they experience with Lennie's touching things he shouldn't and how that forces them to run, hide, and constantly search for work. Throughout the book, Steinbeck gives just a small picture of all the trouble Lennie has caused and how George continues to guide him to get by. A problem with a girl leads us to chapter 1 and 6, and how they share in setting, but George and Lennie's interactions differ. The similarities and differences of chapter 1 and 6 show how Lennie and George's cohesive friendship with a bright future develops into a loving bond that had to end.
“Of Mice and Men” is a book written by John Steinbeck about George and Lennie who after running from their previous job on a farm because of a mistake; end up working on another farm to make money for their dream of buying land and running their farm. Throughout their time working George meets new people and interacts with them such as he is to be considered as a good friend. The author uses these interactions to portray George’s characteristics and show him as a good friend. One occurrence when George is shown to be a good friend is when he comforts Lennie before they are about to eat. In chapter 1 George and Lennie are in an unfamiliar place and Lennie asks George to tell him “about the rabbits” so George does to comfort Lennie.
Through George’s journey in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck conveys that fate creates a quester’s path, no matter how much effort and willpower is put into getting to what the quester thinks is their final destination. George has a place to go and a goal to reach, but he doesn’t end up where he wants to. English Literature Professor Thomas C. Foster’s explanation of a quest includes a quester, the quester having a place to go, and a goal they know they want to reach. George having a place to go is shown in the beginning of the book, when George and Lennie are on their way to the new ranch.

The main Protagonists are Lennie and George. They face many hardships and the main antagonist being society. The characters show their infatuation and companionship throughout the novella.
In the story Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, it mainly takes place on a ranch where two migrant workers, Lennie and George travel around to find work. Throughout the story George helps Lennie throughout the whole story because Lennie is mentally handicapped and has trouble thinking. Lennie cannot be by himself and needs help with simple tasks. George has a large amount of responsibility for Lennie as he always has to care for him. There were events throughout the story where Lennie does some bad things that gets him and George in trouble and at risk of getting kicked out of the ranch.
As previously mentioned, the portrayal of George is through his strengths, but as Steinbeck sinks deeper into the story, his flaws start to appear, leading to the climax. Steinbeck begins every chapter with descriptive and vivid diction to set the scene, one that will become blemished by the contrast of the continued story. One could compare George to a mouse, just as the title of the novella, Of Mice and Men. A mouse, compared to Man, retains innocence, just as George is at the novella's beginning. He notices Lennie is not improving because of his continuous errors, causing them to flee and find another job.
Imagine the last time you did something for someone else. Think about if you got something or were expecting something in return. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George takes care of Lennie who is cognitively delayed. George sacrifices everything he has to care for Lennie just as much as he cares for himself. A true companion does the most selfless acts for their partner.

In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, many of the characters faced times of great disappointment. They are disappointed because dreams or plans didn’t go as they wanted them to. George, Lennie and Curley’s wife are disappointed with their current place in life due to many of their plans going awry. George is one of the “main characters”, and faces times of hardship and disappointment.
To say this as kind as possible, George’s dreams were in an uncrackable safe and Lennie was the safe itself. Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, was my favorite story that I read this year. The characters were interesting and there wasn’t a lot of characters either, which I liked. I also enjoyed the plot twist at the end and probably wouldn’t have ever saw it coming if I didn’t have it spoiled for me.
In Of Mice and Men, George demonstrates that you can be friends with who ever you want which can make unique friendship and being open minded, because he has a friend that has trouble controlling himself, but George still continued to help him and stay beside him. The story takes back in the day during the American great depression and people struggles to live in America. The two main characters in the story are George who is the sharp eyed hard worker and Lennie who is handicapped and has bad control of himself. George and Lennie are searching for work and Lennie who happens to cause trouble for George which gets in George’s way a lot and because of Lennie they had to leave the town, because they were interviewing job with the manager
Throughout Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George slowly starts to become more mind and accepting of Lennie in him life. Even though George’s attitude changes over the course of the novella, in ways his attitude stays the same. George may have started to be more kind towards Lennie and not want to let him go, but he still pittys him. He always feels sorrow and compassion for Lennie 's misfortunes. Though he has always helped him, he could never help him get over his mental illness.
George is an average man who works hard to make a living. Like most people, George wants to live the American dream. In the novelette Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George Milton is a diverse character with several important traits. Two of his main traits are controlling and caring. These seemingly contradictory traits make George an interesting character to read about.
