What was it like for Paul Revere on the night of the midnight ride? There are similarities and differences between “The Midnight ride of Paul Revere” and the historical account. Revere’s account and the poem both discuss how Revere alerted as many people as he could. In the "Historical account" according to the text, “Where I had kept a boat; two friends rowed me across Charles River, a little to the eastward where the man-o-war Somerset lay”(par 4). This means that two of his friends rowed him across the Charles River. However, in the poem according to the speaker, ”Then he said “Good night!” and with muffled oar/silently rowed to the charlestown shore ” (Longfellow, Lines 15-16). This is important because the text says that Revere rowed but it doesn't say anything about anyone else being there with him so that means that is saying that he rowed alone. Nevertheless, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow didn’t include that two people rowed Revere across the river but we know he does get rowed by two people because Revere said it himself and I think Longfellow did this because it is kind of a small detail that he was rowed by two people and just by
