There are a few things that differed between the Renaissance and the Middle Ages. Things such as humanism and new inventions came about after the Middle ages. The Renaissance is commonly defined as the rebirth of Europe after famine and plague swept through the area during the Middle ages.

In the Middle ages, people were always faced with diseases and war. Because of this people depended on their communities and worked as a whole. Most people belonged to certain groups known as guilds that would master a trade. In this system everyone worked together, and made the same amount of money, no more or no less than anyone else. Although, in the Renaissance the philosophy of humanism was introduced and people were looked at as individuals.
