Imagine you're in the year 1398, you are painting a picture but it looks all the same as the other ones. You look over at your friends and something makes them stand out. The strokes look different and there is a whole other perspective of the world we thought we knew. During the years 1300-1650 was when the Renaissance took place. The Renaissance was a period of big change when art and literature became popular and many advances were made.
In the Middle Ages, the power of people impacted the society, because of the Feudal System. In other words, the rankings of people. There were four groups. The Kings and Queens were at the top, then the nobles, the knights, and last peasants and serfs(Doc. 1). Serfs and peasants had very little land given and they even had to provide food that they farmed for the knights and nobles.
The Renaissance was a terrific time for innovation and learning after the Middle Ages. This era of advancement occurred between 1400 AD and 1700 AD. The Renaissance occurred in post-medieval Europe. The prosperous age brought many advancements to Europe in various fields, such as astronomy, mathematics, and art. The Renaissance also made man question everything they practiced in the Middle and Dark Ages.
What exactly was the Renaissance? Well I’m glad you asked, the Renaissance was technically a ‘’rebirth’’ or ‘’revival’’ of art and literature, as some people would describe it as, and it had started in Europe around the year of 1400 and had lasted until about the 1700s. The Renaissance was a time of intellectual excitement, when art and literature blossomed and groundbreaking scientific advances were being made. During this period of time large parts of scientific and cultural advances were beginning to develop, and people were beginning to see themselves in a new way. The Renaissance changed man’s view of man in at least four areas: Art, Astronomy, Literature, and last but not least Human Anatomy.
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story are very similar. This is for the most part because West Side Story is based off the story, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is a 1597 play written by William Shakespeare about two young teenagers who experience “love at first sight”. Upon committing suicide, both of their deaths end the long feud between their two families. Very similarly, West Side Story is a 1961 movie/musical in which modern day Romeo and Juliet (who, in the musical, are known as Tony and Maria) are involved in a New York street gang war.
Unit 2: The Middle Ages and Renaissance The two most important times in world history for the arts and music was the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Both time periods shaped our world in ways that are still used today. The Middle Ages was a time of migration, war and then a period of cultural growth.
In the 19th century, Manifest Destiny was a theory created by John O'Sullivan, an American editor and columnist, where he believes that the destiny of American settlers was to expand to the west, while at the same time spread their traditions and their institutions. As a result, many Americans settlers expanded beyond the west coast and gained more land as it caused them to built transcontinental railroads and many other great things. In addition, the American settlers considered the United States to be the best possible way to remake the world in the image of their own country as they believe God had blessed them with the growth of American nation. After encouragement to the Western Expansion, major changes such as technology, social economics, and the roles of women had great effects toward the Americans’ way of living, where it became known as the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution sparked the way how Americans’ lives changed thanks to advance and new modern technologies that were invented.
Most pieces of music in these two periods, consist of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melody. A difference between the two eras would be in rhythm and melody. In the Renaissance period, music was composed of a gentle flow of beats instead of one beat. However, in the
