The short stories “The White Circle” and “All Summer in a Day,” share a similar concept of how you should be careful who you trust, they could turn on you in the end. “The White Circle” focuses on a mutual hatred between Anvil and Tucker where's “All Summer in a Day” the other children don’t really turn on Margot until they lock her in the closet again. “All Summer in a Day” is about a group of young school children who live on Venus. One of the students’ names is Margot. She moved from Earth to Venus, wheres all the other children have lived on Venus their entire lives. On Venus, it rains year round and the sun only comes out for two hours every seven years, so the children who have always lived on Venus are said to have no color to them. Tucker takes a lot of pride in his tree and is very protective of it. His friend Anvil goes into Tucker’s tree and takes and eats all of his apples. This causes Tucker to get really angry and fight Anvil. Out of sheer madness and anger, Tucker plans to lure Anvil into the barn and kill him by getting him to stand in the middle of a white circle where a very sharp pitchfork waits for him. Anvil is weary of what Tucker is trying to get him to do, but he ends up caving in and standing in the center of a white circle in which the pitchfork waits for him from above. Once Tucker get Anvil into the spot, he lets the pitchfork loose, but Anvil gets away. Instead of this making Anvil angry, he instead seems heavy hearted and leaves. Even though Anvil was fighting with Tucker and was reluctant to stand in the white circle, he put his trust in Tucker, which almost ended his life. For this exact reason, it tells Anvil that he should be careful with whom he trusts because trusting Tucker almost ended his
