Like a Gemini, hip hop's personality has always been split into two. On one side you have a young, wild, & free, spirit that is looking for a place to party & bullshit. On the other side you have a conscious mind that is aware of it's surroundings, what's being said & done to it, & is mindful of how all these things & it's actions effect it. At it's best, hip hop is able to take both these sides & make music that entertains & educates it's listener, and upcoming hip hop artist, Eric Jamal, displays this tactic on his single "Both Parents (Mixed)."

The emotion of the beat gives off this young, wild, & reckless kid with no direction, which gives Eric Jamal the energy needed to fuel his delivery on the track. The two verses play out as lessons from the young child's parents on to always stay humble but from different perspectives. The first verse Eric Jamal spits proverbs from his pop on how to always stay true to himself no matter where his journey takes him & that his dignity should never have a price on it. Lines like "That's word, listen to a wise man's words/Then I put them words in my verse & take them straight to church even if it's in hearse," shows that he's going to take his father's advice wherever he goes, even if he's no longer living. The next verse are words of wisdom from mama who warns the young MC during his journey of success, to never get so caught up in himself that he isn't aware of who really loves him & who doesn't, especially from women. While lines like "She said I'm blessed with this curse, look at my beautiful curves/I am the quench to their thirst, damn she get around like curves," display how Eric Jamal feels about how certain circumstances can drastically change a woman's mentality, lines like "when will she learn/her body more than a purse," shows the compassion for all women that his mother has instilled in
