Sexual orientation varies in accord with certain religious denominations. Both the Christian and Muslim faiths hold principles as to what is right and wrong in connection with sexual preferences. Though both religions determine their value of right and wrong through differing constructs, they both ultimately conclude the same morals in regard to sexual orientation. One thing I learned from the readings and the lectures presented in class is, the Christian faith relies heavily on the idea of procreation to validate the wrongful action of homosexuality. Another thing I learned through the information presented is that Muslims tend to teach a very strict and precise viewpoint on the consequences of homosexuality. Though each religious denomination has its various reasons to validate their values, each regard the issue in the same manner to ensure one purpose: the stability of society. From the readings and lectures presented in class I learned the strict interpretation of the Muslim viewpoint in regard to sexual orientation. Muslims deem homosexuality as “strictly forbidden,” and do not tolerate any acts as such nor teach it in the church. Homosexuality among the Muslim community holds a very traditional consequence, something I had not previously known. Although, the most interesting and thought provoking thing I learned was the actual punishment faced by someone guilty of such sexual orientation. Any Muslim found guilty of prohibited sexual orientation is put to immediate death, but four members of society must witness the act in order for the person to be guilty.
