In today’s society there’s many race arose “Black Lives Matter.” There is many cases where there has been “Police Brutality.” There has been more effect on the black community and I believe people focus too much on race and not enough on how to better the police enforcement. Police officers should be trained and displaced. We can’t label all police officers as bad ones and all black men as criminals.
Racism and racial discrimination has been a major issue in the U.S. since the colonial periods, where people have been treated differently only based upon their race. Although the civil rights movement opposed racial discrimination, the act of stereotyping individuals still continues till this day. Racial profiling by law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race, religion or national origin. Racial profiling is a problem across the entire nation in law enforcement. In every community it differs to who is being oppressed, and it usually depends on the type of race and ethnicity the community holds. As to us, our culture and setting consist of a high percentage of hispanics and latinos, so here comes to our problem as to who is being targeted mostly in our racist issues with the police brutally. The problem we face in our community is the fact that being from the culture, we grew up in all policemen stereotype latinos for the way they make look or speak.
What if you were racially profiled against because of your ethnic background, something that is beyond your control? Racial profiling, according to civil rights.org, refers to the targeting of particular individuals by law enforcement authorities based not on their behavior, but rather their personal characteristics. Many minorities are unnecessarily stopped thus showing the lack of education in law enforcement. The fact that minorities are also constantly stereotyped against in media doesn't help.
There has been so many cases of law officials attacking and even killing young black males based on their ‘suspicions’ of illegal and violent activities. For example: Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner and many others have all fallen victim to racial profiling by the police. Another example the movie ‘Fruitvale Station’ which was based on a true story, some black males had an altercation on the train and got off when the police were alerted. Although, they were guilty, all the police saw were black people who immediately fit their profile of crime suspects. So, without question, they were arrested and one was shot and died on the spot.
Who is the target? I hate when people complain about racial profiling in the police force. African Americans are not the only race that has conflict with the police. I know because I have been in a situation where I could have been easily racial profiled but I was not. About four weeks ago I was in a store and I heard the manager complaining to a white policeman that a man in a red hoodie was stealing.
Racial profiling has been around for years! Some may say it has gotten better since slavery ended in 1865 and segregation in the 1950s, but no it is still around but with a different twist to it. (Racial Profiling) Police brutality has not always been issue. In fact being a police office use to be a voluntary act.
As a young black male in 2017, our society has me racially profiled. Anytime they see a young black male like myself, eyebrows raise. Society does not view us as equals, they view us as a minority even though we are a majority. We are viewed as the ground the walk on. They think we will never amount to anything.
I believe that a police officer has a right to stop somebody for their ethnicity or race. At this very moment we “U.S CITIZENS” are being attacked by Islamic Jihadist’s and I have no problem stopping them for anything. As far as any other race I stand for the police to stop them too. If it’s going to save people’s lives then I’m all for it.
Many People think of racial profiling as relatively recent phenomena that manifested in the 1980s, as the news of Blacks being pulled over for “driving while black” began making national headlines. Racial Profiling is a new term for actions against black people that, dates back 300 years and is a not a recent manifestation of discriminatory conduct by police and the criminal justice system but dates back to the 1700s in the United States for people of African descent. Racial profiling is about racism and stereotypes that assume the worst of a race of people based on biased racial perceptions that are then projected and multiplied, affecting and endangering people of a particular race, ethnicity, religion or nationality. Additionally, racial profiling is the use of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or national origin by the Police or other law enforcement as a factor in deciding who to arrest or detain in the absence of a particular crime or any criminal behavior.
Racial profiling has become a national issue starting in 2015 (“Racial”). Judging someone for their race has been a problem ever since a minority group has been noticed. Racial profiling has spread over all over the world. Racial profiling has been a problem through the years, if the human race can learn what racial profiling is, advantages of the profiling, and the disadvantages.
Racial Profiling in America Racial profiling is defined as refers to the targeting of particular individuals by law enforcement authorities based not their behavior, but rather their personal characteristics ( The Leadership conference) . This is another mechanism for racial discrimination backed by the law. According to the The Leadership conference, racial discrimination is not solely on race, but based on religion, ethnicity and national origin.
Throughout history, disputes and tensions between law enforcement officials and communities of minorities have endured hostility and violence between each other. Racial profiling has become a “hot topic” for researchers as well as for politicians and by now it is likely that most citizens are at least aware of the common accusations of racial bias pitted against law enforcement (Cochran & Warren, 2013). Communities of color are being discriminated against and racially profiled by white police officers for any suspicion of criminal activities. It has been widely assumed by policy makers and citizens alike that allegations of racial profiling are mostly associated with the policing practices of white officers and their treatment of racial and ethnic minorities (Cochran & Warren, 2013). Also, individuals of minority descent will certainly recognize that they are being racially profiled during a stop that is being conducted by a white police officer.
Cops around the United States have been accused of racially profiling black people. This topic has been brought up by everyone around the U.S. and is very controversial. Studies have shown that the majority of deaths by police officers have been people of opposite color in America. Police brutality in America is a growing epidemic that has shown no signs of slowing down. Innocent men, women, and even children have been killed by police officers for no reason.
