Competitive Sports

In a sports article called, 7 Charts that Show the State of Youth Sports in the US and Why it Matters, by Alice Lee, it states in a graph shown, that in 2008 there were 9 million physically active kids in the US, but that changed, and in 2013 there were only 8.2 million physically active kids. This graph shows the decline of kids playing competitive sports, but why is this happening? WE NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE! I believe competitive sports are good for people to experience because it teaches you how to compete and live in the real world, it forces a healthy, nutritious lifestyle, and you will learn valuable life lessons.
First of all, competitive sports teach you the responsibilities of what being in the ‘real world’ will be like. As an adult, competitions and the feeling of failing is going to be surrounding you each and everyday. As, you older all of these responsibilities are going to be thrown at you and your going to be expected to deal with it. If you play competitive sports you have to learn how to manage your time well and deal with your ‘competition’. I did talk about one already and that is responsibility, but there are many more. For example, work ethic, recovery from a loss, and composure are a few. Every summer millions of people watch the Little League World Series take place. During that time people all over the world are reminded that that there are some extremely talented kids on that field. But when you see a kid give their opponent a high five, that’s what sports provide for your kids, not just great sports coaching, but life coaching. Studies have shown that when you play a competitive sport you learn that you can't get what you want if you don’t work hard. This work ethic will turn into what you do at a job and could lead you to a successful
