All humans have been in tough situations involving conflict. It is only human nature to respond to these conflicts. The book Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl and the historical fiction The Boy in the Striped Pajamas provide good examples of attitude connected with human survival because their characters, Anne, Bruno, and Shmuel all demonstrate a positive attitude and frame of mind when they were in hard situations that could have resulted in life or death. What though, is the best way to respond to conflicts? It has been proven by real life situations, experts, and scholars that a positive frame of mind or response to bad situations (conflict), is one of the best ways that one can deal with difficult trials they might face and could even be the key to survival. Having a positive outlook on things even in hard situations is one of the best ways to survive because it could keep one's mind to stay thinking positive and it helps to sharpen decision making. Shmuel is in a concentration camp and Bruno is free and his father is the commandant of a concentration camp. Throughout the story though, both of these boys display positive attitudes even in their situations. Bruno acts like a normal fun boy and does things like wants to show Shmuel his room, and wants to play with him. In the story when Bruno finds Shmuel in his house cleaning, he starts eating chicken and really enjoying it. Bruno even shares it with Shmuel even though they were scared they would get caught. By enjoying the chicken together, both of these boys in the story show examples of staying positive. These are things everyone should do in hard situations, not to tense up all the time, but stay
