Following Napoleon’s defeat, the monarchies of Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Great Britain resolved to keep France in line. Prior to Napoleon’s defeat, the Quadruple Alliance had agreed to meet at the Congress of Vienna. At the Congress of Vienna, they were posed with an immense obstacle; How could they construct an agreement that would not allow another war to occur? Many important aspects to overcome this obstacle were initiated at the Congress of Vienna. At the conference many key components were put into place including the Peace of Paris, Balance of Power and spoils of the war, which enabled the Congress to restore order and create a stable Europe.

The Congress of Vienna orchestrated an agreement, known as the Peace of Paris that allowed for fifty years of peace in Europe. This agreement was critical in restoring order and stability in Europe. Additionally, the formation of a ‘balance of power’ was crucial in certifying that France nor anyone else could dominate Europe again. The spoils of war war were another key part to ensuring an equilibrium between the European countries, as they restricted the amount of land that France controlled and established clear boundaries. Everyone got something but not enough that they could overthrow the ‘balance of power’ in the future. Following the Congress the Quadruple Alliance agreed to meet periodically to discuss common interests and appropriate measures for the maintenance of peace. Similar to the Congress of Vienna was the Treaty of Versailles that was issued years later. The Treaty of Versailles was one of the treaties issued to end World War I. More specifically, it ended the war between Germany and the Allied Powers (Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States.)
