In the United States of America each state under their state constitutions, have a public official known as a governor, to lead the executive branch and govern the state. The governor of each state holds considerable power in regards to state budgeting, appointing public officials, and passing or vetoing bills proposed by the legislature. In most states the gubernatorial elections are held in even intervals of four years. The state of New Jersey is among the thirty six states to hold their gubernatorial elections every four years, and for this reason is fast approaching their next election. To implement a tax rebate Phil Murphy will enforce millionaires tax and the legalization of marijuana. The millionaires tax will make the wealthiest citizens of the state pay more in income tax substantially lowering the tax for the middle class. The tax revenue from this implementation is estimated at around $1.3 billion and will allow Murphy to commence projects such as improved transportation, the funding of schools, and the funding of public employee pensions. These improvements are necessary and beneficial to the protection of the middle class from poverty and economic struggle. The millionaires tax will affect about 1% of NJ and protect the remaining 99%. Likewise, it will allow middle class individuals the opportunity to attend better and free schools including community college, as well as allow retired public employees to collect money based on their involvement in their job. Phil Murphy is also an advocate the legalization of marijuana. The tax revenue for this development is approximately $300 million. Murphy believes this will not only contribute to many state improvements including education and transport but allow law enforcement agencies including local police departments to focus more on violent crime. He is an advocate for women's equality and protection in the economy. He will attempt to offer women the same salary as men by restricting employers from asking job applicants for their salary history. Women´s health will continued to be funded, as well, and a child tax credit will be created. The protection of women in society is eminently significant and Phil Murphy reformations to provide women with this protection is another prominent reason for his election into office. Murphy´s stance on safety, as well, is a notable issue that must not be overlooked. He plans focus on the gun violence epidemic by addressing the gun violence preventions that were neglected by Governor Christie. The preventative measures he proposes are the instillation of mandatory gun safety courses and making it illegal to sell a gun without conducting a background check on the prospective buyer. In the wake of the deadly and catastrophic Las Vegas shooting Murphy´s gun safety regulations are more desirable and imperative than ever. Lastly, Phil Murphy plans to confront the opioid epidemic plaguing the state of New Jersey. To help fight addiction Murphy plans to fund public campaigns making aware the danger of opioid consumption and prevention as well increasing access to drug treatment facilities.
