When people think of Louisiana they think about the scenery, the culture, the vibes, and the overall experience that everyone needs to see to believe. When it comes to the Political Institutions of the state of Louisiana there are numerous differences that are key when it comes to analyzing the Legislative and Executive branches of the state. The way that the structure of the government of Louisiana is set up can be described as how the executive and legislative branches work on a daily basis. However, “six of the twenty departments are headed by statewide officials other than the governor” these six departments include: commissioner of insurance, general commissioner of agriculture and forestry, the lieutenant governor, the attorney general, secretary of state, and the treasurer. Also, less than two percent of the budgets of the statewide elected officials play a part in the state’s total spending. However, the elected officials are not limited to only serving two terms like the Governor is, these officials can run for multiple terms without any limits. The Lieutenant Governor will serve as the interim Governor if the current Governor is unable to act as the Governor and/or if the Governor is out of the state at the time. Also, the Lieutenant Governor has the power to appoint (with Senate approval) and as of 1986 the Lieutenant Governor has been named as the commissioner of the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism. The Secretary of State is the state’s chief election officer and he or she is the head of the Department of State. This position is responsible for preparing and certifying the election ballots of the State, administrating the voter registration laws, and announcing election returns.
