more hate in their relationship. The hate in their relationship resulted in many tragedies, including the death of Romeo and Juliet. All of the consequences they received were a result of their parent's long-lasting hostile behavior. Romeo made many commitments to himself and Juliet, he went against his family, changed his name, and of course killed himself. You could say this was because of love but I disagree. He did these things because he had to, because of the hatred between their families. An example of this forced commitment is seen in Act 2 of “Romeo and Juliet”, “Deny thy father and refuse thy name;/ Or, if thou will not, be sworn my love.” (2.2.36-37) This shows Juliet convincing Romeo to change his name to make their love easier. This only was a problem because of the long-lasting feud between the Montagues and Capulets. How does this relate to the death of Romeo? Because of the hatred, Juliet had to fake her death. If there wasn’t an issue between the families Juliet and Romeo would be together and Juliet wouldn't have to attempt to get Romeo’s attention. After Juliet “dying” Romeo was in much distress and overwhelmed with emotions he was very sad about the death of the love of his life and angry at his family for being the cause of this tragedy. Being overwhelmed with emotions he decided to end his life. He felt it was not worth living without the adventure of being with Juliet. “Will I set up my everlasting rest,/ And shake the yoke of inauspicious stars.” (5.3.111-112) This quote is an example of how he was feeling before he committed suicide. He was full of feelings of hatred as well as love. He meant that it is a shame that their unlucky love ended in such a tragedy.
