“It takes nothing to join the crowd. It takes everything to stand alone,” Ham F. Hanses. Too many people are influenced by their peers to make inadequate decisions. In other words, following the crowd can have disastrous consequences. Don’t be a follower, be a leader. Never base your decisions off of what someone else decides. For example in the short story “The Lottery”, by Shirley Jackson, it is obvious that everyone is dreading the lottery, but nobody will step out of the crowd and say something. Nobody will lead their own path. Another instance where everyone follows the crowd is when they all begin to gather in the square. The boys come first and stay together.
