The constructs of childhood empower teachers and adults to identify which construct or constructs lies inside a child’s behaviour. Discovery of these constructs provides greater insight into the relationships that exist for the child, deconstruction of processes which may or may not be helpful can begin. This can provide the opportunity for the child to create relationships with the benefit of being life-enhancing and liberating (Sorin and Galloway, 2006). The child as victim or the absent adult can be the result of war, famine or poverty. The child in this scenario is clearly suffering but so too is the adult, due to circumstances which is generally beyond the control of the adult. There is also the possibility the adult is completely absent in the life of the child, resulting in the care of the child being provided for by the state or other services if provided at all. The child nor the adults in the child’s life hold any illusion of power (Sorin and Galloway, 2006). For the child power is assumed by the adult through the scenario of the situation usually being in a workplace setting. The power of the adult lies in their capacity to garner the ability of the child to suit their circumstances, adults can choose to be caring or overbearing (Sorin and Galloway, 2006). The child can learn and participate in the world provided for them, this however makes the child less. Neither the child or the adult are personally powerful, the relationship between adults and children are simply a means to reproduce social order (Sorin and Galloway, 2006). The educator here again would struggle to assert influence and control as the child believes they are taking care of their own needs be it financially or other, they will have already accumulated the skills they need to
