He also kept you reading by switching over to the next character in the middle of a big event to make you want to keep reading. For example, "McKenna appeared with both thumbs up.(Green17)" and, "Trevor shut his eyes and swung.(Green 54)" Lastly, "He clenched his jaw and reared back.(Green 150)" Those are just some examples about how almost every chapter ends before it switches to the next character making you want to keep reading and find out what happens.

Throughout the movie “End of Watch” follows along with Officer Brian Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Officer Mike Zavala (Pena) on their daily patrols in the inner city of Los Angeles. During the course of the movie, there are many things that Officer Taylor and Officer Zavala do that is very common and even accepted among police officers. But, one reoccurring theme is that they use foul language while on duty, act unprofessional, and use excessive force. In addition, Officer Taylor is actively recording his daily activities while on duty with a handheld video camera and lapel body cameras for both himself and Officer Zavala. Even though Officer Taylor was repeatedly told to cease his filming by fellow officers and supervisors he continued his behavior.
Similarly, the cinematography of Casablanca also strives to shape the viewer’s attention to the time and space of the story. The film employs a handheld movement of the camera in certain instances, to display the mise-en-scene in a genuine manner that emphasizes the setting and time of the movie. When analyzing the spatial relations of The War on Drugs’ “Holding On” and Sherlock Jr., the audience can explore the continuity and discontinuity within each film that will later suggest different messages and ideas. In “Holding On”, there is a clear line between continuity and discontinuity. There are many instances that the film offers continuity between shots by utilizing the 180-degree line and eyeline match. The 180-degree line can be seen by the audience when the man in the film walks from the left to the right side of the frame when in the pasture headed toward the woods. Those that believe Casablanca is not film noir usually perceive Film Noir as a genre. Noir is not a genre; Noir transcends genres and behaves more accurately as a style of cinema. As styles go, there can be variations of them as we see now with Post-Noir and Neo Noir, noir elements in a different time period of film technology which makes these films slightly different than the style of classic film noir. Themes of cynicism, impending doom, loss, jeopardy of life accompanied by visuals dominated by shadows, strong lines, and overall darkness to the image make up film noir’s style. Noir is not absolute, the beauty of this style is its vulnerability to variation, which is why Michael Curtiz’s Classic Casablanca is film noir.

Movies and books, for example, are two very different ways to tell stories to an audience. A story can be a book, but not a movie or vice versa. Many books are made into movies, but lose major elements in translation.
Breathless is most commonly known for Godard’s style of editing, which made jump cuts more popular and acceptable. Films during this time were expected to follow a smooth way of editing, with every cut following a very logical pattern. However, Godard did the complete opposite and relied on unexpected, quick jumps in editing. Godard makes use of the jump cut when Michel passes numerous cars on the road.
