William Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo and Juliet, explores how love can be an intense feeling that controls our mentality. Love, being the force outside of Juliet’s control, influenced her identity to change from being innocent and obedient to a rebellious who would do anything for Romeo.
At the very beginning of the play, Juliet has not met Romeo yet to spark her love for him. She is with her mother and nurse discussing her disposition of marrying Paris, “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move. But no more deep will I endart mine eye than your consent give strength to make it fly.” which verifies the idea that Juliet is obedient to her mother (Shakespeare 1.3.103-106). Juliet expresses that she has no thought or opinion of marrying someone which leads to the point that she is not experienced with loving someone else. Having a scene with nothing influencing her mind is important to establish a timeline of Juliet’s actions and statements to determine whether or not Juliet’s love for Romeo is affecting her. At this point in the timeline, Juliet has experienced love with Romeo leading her to soon disobey her
