Capital Punishment or death penalty has always been a controversial and highly debatable topic. While a section favors it and advocates for it calling it an active and important medium of deterrence, the other section strongly bats against it calling it barbaric and against the spirit of civilized world. Both the sections influence various organizations and governments across the globe and their policies on the matter. The section against the capital punishment has been extremely vocal off late and has been calling for a complete ban on capital punishment globally and rightly so. Capital punishment reeks of moral hypocrisy and double standards. It directly implies an eye for an eye which is only capable of making the entire world blind. It leads to wastage of the taxpayer’s money. Capital punishment litigations cost taxpayers much more than the ones seeking life without parole. Criminal cases for death punishment lead to excessive usage of the legal system including the very valuable days in the court. A state spends an average of $150,000 on a case for life sentence without parole while this cost could go up to almost $3.5 million for death penalty cases (Holloway, 2015). Another reason that capital punishment should be done away with as soon as possible is because death penalty is unevenly applied and race has been found to be discriminatory factor while awarding death penalty. This leads to isolation of a section of a society. It has been found that those who kill whites are more probable of getting a death sentence than those killing African Americans or Hispanics (oadp.ord, n.d.). Both these points again prove that death punishment should be abolished because it causes excessive leakage of public funds and discrimination, both of which are not good for any country and
