Society has worshipped the idea of being rich since the beginning of Earth. Having the luxury brands such as Chanel and Balmain has increased over the past two decades. If you have something from the luxury brands, you are considered to be upper class material. If you do not, society categorizes you in the middle or lower class. Society’s take on the rich and poor has been corrupt, but people never take a further look into morals of one. Morality of a person can make them more rich.
Corrupt morals is something that is not a secret within society. For instance, in Khaled Hosseini’s novel, Kite Runner, a Kabul neighbor, Assef, thinks of himself as a young leader due to his origin. “...Now, there was a leader. A great leader. A man with a vision. …show more content…

As an illustration, in Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Miserables, Marius Pontmercy grows into a home of wealth, and despite this, he grows to have good morals. He leaves home from his grandfather and aunt to start building something for his own. “All hatred goes out of his heart in proportion as light enters his mind. And then he is unhappy? No. The misery of a young man is never miserable. The first lad you meet, poor as he may be, with his health, his strength, his quick black locks, his fresh cheeks, his rosy lips, his white teeth, his pure breath, will always be envied by an old emperor… He is firm, serene, gentle, peaceful, attentive, serious, content with little, benevolent; and he blesses God for having given him these two estates which many of the rich are without: labor which makes him free, and thought which makes him noble.” (pg. 262-263). Marius never let his grandfather and aunt’s wealth affect his morals. For this, he is much richer in morality than Assef was in Kite Runner. Marius always wanted to help people, put them first before his own. The thought of him having little did not change his outlook on life. He developed his own views as he went out to get an education and explore the world for his own good. How Marius’ neighbors and locals would talk highly of him when he was not around, as well as how he would be described as a star with glimpses of light shown through his soul demonstrates
