The Cost of Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s is one of the most deadly diseases that affects the world we live in, day in and day out, which has me wondering why there is not a greater knowledge what causes this disease and how to cure it. There are more than 5 million cases of Alzheimer’s in the United States each year and it keeps growing at an alarming rate. This is very alarming considering how many lives are affected by This devastating disease, yet little is being done to find a cure. Billions of dollars go towards finding cures and doing research on other medical problems, that are looked at as bigger issues, while substantially less money is going towards Alzheimer’s. The aftermath is a long and slow process that affects the family for 10 to 15 years, during and after losing the person you love. The family provides care for their loved one and does all they can to make the process easier. Typically a caregiver is brought into the home to make a more comfortable environment for their loved one. Sometimes to take the the burden off of the family, the patient is moved into a home so that they are given all of the care that they deserve. The care becomes too much for the family to always watch after their loved one and is often not given everything they need to live they healthy life they need. All of the care given adds up in cost and becomes too much for some families to afford. The other is the stress on the medical system. Education people on the signs of heart disease has been a major player in the reduction of deaths. At this time, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, and there is no known cause for it. Some researchers have set up clinical trials that test new interventions or drugs to prevent, detect and treat disease. Clinical studies have also found other aspects of care, such as improving quality of life and making the struggle of the disease easier to get through. The Alzheimer's Association TrialMatch database includes trials to test new treatments or combinations of treatments. There has also been treatments and drugs that have been formulated to help with the cognitive and behavioral symptoms that come with the disease.
