The Jordan River Commission initiated the Cottonwood Pond revitalization project in 2015. In continuing their efforts to restore, develop, and promote the importance of the Jordan River, the Cottonwood pond was targeted because of its serious need of revitalization and repair. It is also an opportunity to create and promote and new recreational area along the river corridor promoting economic development. Although it has been an ongoing project for a few years’ stakeholders, sponsors, and the community look forward to the ribbon cutting of the park this spring. The Cottonwood Pond revitalization project was implemented to transform the Cottonwood pond from the rumored area of dumping dead bodies, to a resource of beauty and recreation for the community. The beautification of the area also allows for the necessary upkeep of the Jordan River, and Utah’s tedious ecosystem. With the aid of the community, different high schools, and college students a massive 11,727 hours of trailside volunteer hours where logged. Without the help and aid of West Valley city the project would have not been possible. Although thousands of hours were logged from students and other sources it would have not been possible to complete other tasks without professionals and heavy machinery provided by West Valley City. However the volunteer labor and donation of supplies is equal to $ 324, 713. The community and schools were incremental to the creation of the new pond. The individuals that really care about this project are those from the high schools, community, and organizations.
