Ethics Review Counseling can give individuals the tools they need to interact with the world and stress around them. It is a very important role to be able to help others with out doing further or more harm then what clients are already experiencing in their lives. The American Counseling Association (ACA) states that it strives on educational, scientific, and professional organizations, which are made up of members who work in many different settings. ACA believes counseling is a relationship between the counselor and client that enables individuals, families, and groups from all walks of life to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals (American Counseling Association, 2014). For example ACA is a board focus, which consist of counseling in schools, employments, and rehabilitation settings (American Counseling Association, 2014). AMHCA is focused on clinical mental health counselors and educators, while NBCC focuses on all nationally certified counselors (American Mental Health Counseling Association, 2016). NBCC discusses confidentiality when it comes to client records, consultation, social media, and when utilizing assessments (National Board for Certified Counselors, 2016). Much like ACA they talk specifically about when and different reason confidentiality may arise. Lastly Both ACA and AMHCA discuss how to resolve ethical dilemmas and who report to, however NBCC states that “sanctions of applicants and credential holders under this code are issued by NBCC only if provisions of the NBCC codes of ethics are found to have been Violated.” (National Board for Certified Counselors, 2016) ACA governs both ACA and AMHCA counselors and they talk bout specific violations and the legal guidelines.
