1. As a professional it is important to publically recommend, support, and maintain patient rights at all times. Our job is to always ensure the confidentiality of patient information.
2. Integrity is key! Our mission is to hoist the service given to patients beyond our self-interests. In order to accomplish this, it would require us to show our professional values and ethical principles through our honesty and responsibility.

These ethical obligations are what incluate the main responsibilities of the professional “regardless of the employment site, method of collection, storage, and security of health information.” A few of these obligations include but are not limited to; conserving and ensuring the convenience and integrity of confidential health information. As well as the development and maintenance of information systems. (AHIMA, 2011) The AHIMA code of ethics serves seven purposes in which reflect as a demonstration of actions that convey ethical values, principles, and guidelines. It is made up of codes that are pertinent to each CCHIIM credentialed HIM professional and AHIMA member despite their type of employment, site of employment, or whom they serve. These codes are “enforceable as a matter of professional judgment to be exercised by those responsible for reviewing alleged violations of ethical principles.” The seven purposes are as follows:
1. Promotes high standards of health information management practice.

Allege violations become subject to determination by a peer review process that is separate from legal or administrative procedures and set apart from legal proceedings in order to allow disciplinary actions to take place within the profession. In the event the violation imply with legal liability or violation of the law this would constitute unlawful conduct subject to legal process. A code cannot assure ethical behavior nor is it the solution to ethical challenges within a moral community. These codes were created to put forth values and principles in which professionals can purport and be judged based upon their ethical behavior skills gained from personal commitment to engage in ethical practice. Violation of these codes is not taken lightly due to the fact these code are set in place to not only protect the professional from legal matters pertaining to unethical behavior, but also to protect patient rights and health care
