Dear, Committee Members, I am very interested in working at the Rutgers Graduate School of Education as a Part Time Social Studies Lecturer. As a life-long learner, I was heavily influenced to pursue this profession because of the inspiring educators I encountered in the public school system. I’m part of two Historical Organizations (the Civil War Trust and the National Trust for Historical Preservation) that help protect, interpret, and educate the public about the past. I completed a four-month long-term substitute social studies teaching position at Piscataway High School, teaching four World History classes and one Sociology Elective. I completely agree with your school mission, to help your students develop academically and socially to become responsible citizens that will become the leaders of tomorrow. During my student teaching in Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark, I worked to get my students thinking about complex social issues like slavery and globalization. I did this by challenging their notions on how the products they consume (chocolate, clothing, and their electronics, etc) are produced and by whom. The students worked to find solutions to these problems by writing letters to corporations asking to give better-working conditions for their workers. At Piscataway High School, the World History Students had to do a yearlong summative assignment, in where they had to find solutions to real-world domestic and global problems. At both schools, I infused the use of social media technology such as Remind and Schoology as a way to have the students learned outside of the
