Creative Writing: My First Vietnam War

It all began on one very late night; a husband and his pregnant wife were asleep when the phone rang. The husband answered the phone and his Sargent needed him to leave for Iraq early the next morning. He had no idea how to tell his pregnant wife that he would be leaving for war. She was only a few weeks away from having their unborn child and he did not want to leave her. He woke his wife up and gave her the news; she was so upset her baby was going to be born without her father there. The next morning, she drove her husband to the bus station and they said their goodbyes. They both knew he had to go because it was the right thing to do to fight for our country. She couldn’t move and she started having flashbacks to when her mother and her saw the same thing with her father. She could not go through this again, she did not want her husband to be dead, and he hadn’t got to meet his precious baby girl yet. The doorbell rang and she opened the door and the man said, “I am so sorry for your—, “the wife fell to the ground and her eyes filled with tears she couldn’t believe this was happening to her. All she could think about was that their beautiful baby was never going to meet her father. She was going to have to grow up without a

Scenario’s like this happen to people in the United States every day. War is only ever needed if other countries are trying to attack our homeland. We shouldn’t send our own people overseas to other countries due to all the risks and deaths that occur from war. We need to keep our peace. It is recorded in history, that since 3600 B.C., over 14,500 major wars have killed close to 4 billion people, which is two-thirds of the current world’s population (Thompson). If everyone could just keep their peace and not have war, our world would be a much better place, not as many people would die each day, families wouldn’t get broken, and our world would stop getting damaged from the war. War can make people go crazy and it is just not the way to solve our problems. A lot of people will argue that war is necessary, such as ‘we can’t let someone else dominate us’ they are saying it’s the only way to solve a problem, to kill others so others can be frightened. It has helped bring jobs to those who make weapons and those who battle. It has also helped gain land and with people being killed it decreases population (War). There are other ways to keep our peace without a bunch of people
