One of this week’s readings focused on Ch. 5, “Caged Birds,” in Professor Lytle Hernandez’s book City of Inmates: Conquest, Rebellion, and the Rise of Human Caging in Los Angeles, 1771-1965, and this chapter was particularly interesting because it further explained the development of immigration control in the United States. As a continuation from the last chapter, there was a huge emphasis in the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the Geary Act of 1892. This essentially prohibited Chinese laborers from immigrating to the United States, as well as eventually requiring these people to comply with regulations. “Caged Birds” encapsulates the events afterwards, as the book heads well into the early-1900’s. The disenfranchisement of immigrants develops towards further exclusivity because “[by] 1917, Congress had banned all Asian immigration to the Unites States and also categorically prohibited all prostitutes, convicts, anarchists, epileptics, ‘lunatics,’ ‘
This document summarizes the crimes and sentencing of John Francis Dickison. The document was sectioned under Royal and Religious Offences. Dickison was charged for “Offences against the King (Queen)”, more specifically for “Religious Offences” against the Protestant faith. He was accused of being a Catholic priest and openly persuading a prisoner, Martha Cook, to renounce her Protestant faith to Catholicism. This was seen as treasonous against the crown, and Dickison was found guilty and hanged for his crimes April 13th, 1681.
All of the biguns are responsible for the crimes. They are responsible for the crimes because they have no proof on whether it was a murder or an accident. The only proof it was a murder was Ralph saying “Only two [killed] And, they’re gone”(Golding, 1954, p. 201.). Another reason they are responsible for the crimes is that there is no proof who did it.
When you have a dictatorship power and people look to you as a God you respect them, if people tried to leave or take that power away or from you the first thought shouldn’t be to kill them by poison them with potassium cyanide. When someone treats you wrong you just leave them, you don’t give them enough arsenic poison to kill them for not doing what you read in love stories. Jim Jones committed a mass murder by potassium cyanide poisoning while Nannie Doss created a series of murders along her years by arsenic poisoning. In this research paper we get to look back on Jim Jones and Nannie Doss’s earlier childhood, what actually made them notorious, and how their crime spree ended.
Pigeons are the birds that always represent peaceful, friendly and unity which are all good qualities, the life pigeons have should be enjoyable and relaxed. However New York City pigeons’ lives are not like what we expect. By using contrast, Cortez emphasizes the differences between the New York City pigeons and normal pigeons which tells readers that actually the “pi-geons”can not be called pigeons in the New York City. they have already lost all the qualities that a pigeon should have.

The farming industry of the 21st century is guilty of Murder 2 of the migrant workers. They are guilty of Murder 2 because they sprayed chemicals that they knew can harm people on the plants that the migrants was picking. If you already know something is bad for you workers and you still do it , that’s murder right ? I mean that’s messed up.
Tougher Punishments for Rougher Players Since 2000, NFL players have been committing increasingly serious crimes, considerable amounts of which have been against women. Misogyny, a hatred of women (“Merriam Webster Dictionary”), is an issue among NFL players, as displayed by their crimes against women. Although some people argue that misogyny in the NFL is not a problem and does not need attention, harsher punishments for offenders need to be implemented because excused misogynistic crimes leads to domestic violence and sexual assault, and it teaches children that misogyny and the crimes that come with it are not a big deal when they are. Domestic violence and violence against women in general are definite problems amongst NFL players and they
Should convicts be able to be released from jail or shorten their sentence by donating an organ? This is an important question that is asked by many people. Well my personal opinion is that yes, they should be able to. But I also think there should be certain conditions. I think only first time offenders should be able to shorten or get rid of the rest of their sentence.
An Analysis of Theme in “Just a Pigeon” The theme of the short story “Just a Pigeon” by Dennis Brindell Bradin is doing a good deed does not always result in a reward. Terrence, a high schooler, stumbled upon a pigeon with a broken wing. The pigeon had a broken wing and Terrence decided to help the pigeon by taking it to the vet. Even though Terrence did a good deed, no one reacted positively to Terrence taking care of the bird. In fact, he even got bullied at school.
Although Stephanie McPherson and Jay Wilds had different motives for killing Hae Min Lee, they succeed to falsely incriminate Adnan Syed in spite of all the evidence that clears the defendant of this crime. Adnan’s best friend Stephanie McPherson and her boyfriend Jay Wilds both have as much of a motive to murder Hae Min Lee as Adnan Syed does. According to Ms. Muse, a teacher at Woodlawn High, Stephanie was considered “gorgeous inside and out, a lovely girl, just like Hae” (teachers). In such a small high school, the pressure put on the students who want to attend college is monumental. Therefore, only knowing that Hae and Stephanie were two of the most intelligent and athletic girls in the school raises the question to whether they were
Caged Bird both share a very common theme; segregation, slavery, and imprisonment. According to the poem Sympathy, “Till its blood is red on the cruel bar… I know why he beats his wings.” And from the poem Caged Bird, “…His bars of rage…so he opens his throat to sing.” These quotes show that both birds are treated like slaves. The bird from Sympathy was shipped until the back is full of blood and the bird from Caged Bird was held in a dungeon where it will die.
