“Client assessment is not just a piece of paper”(M5: Assessment) which essentially means the assessment encompasses many standard and non-standardized tools. “There must be a logical connection between the assessment and programs delivered to clients” (M5: Assessment), entails the tools used are causing a positive effect and meeting client goals. This principle links with principle four, which states, “client placement into programs should be based on assessment results not just opinions”. These are closely related because the TRS should not be choosing interventions just because they prefer it but because they know there is a connection between the intervention and clients goals. Another principle is the tool “should provide baseline information”(M5: Assessment) in which the TRS can make inferences about whether the client is progressing or regressing based on the baseline information gathered.
Class & Professor, First, I want to apologize for my late posting, it has been a crazy week (had my own major crisis to deal with) but I have been doing my best to get this done in the little time I had. The basic attending skills needed during crisis intervention like eye contact, warmth, body posture, vocal style, verbal following, overall empathy (focus on client), (Kanel, p. 51), are essential for helping the client and counselor develop rapport. Without these skills, the client would not feel comfortable enough to open up to the counselor or to the intervention process.
In the Goldilocks and the Three Assessment Scenarios, in the scenario when Dr. Nelsen was “too cold”, the counselor seemed to only give the client the information that they would need. Dr. Nelsen did not explain the assessment. Dr. Nelson seemed harsh and she also seemed that she really did not care about the client or the assessment. This may make a client nervous about taking the assessment. The client had questions that the counselor did not answer.
These particular codes offer guidance to common issues that are present in the technological world and often the methods that many adolescents will be communicating. Self-Evaluation The areas, which I feel are my greatest strength as a counselor in training, consist of my empathetic nature, which creates a non-judgmental environment for the client so they feel safe and understood. Often clients may not feel heard and it is important to offer the ability to express to individuals your sincerity in their issues and feel they are not being judged for those emotions. I feel my ability to do this for clients is beneficial in the counseling profession since it would allow me to completely listen to
In summary, I believe that the model can help guide reading for life program needs assessment and planning, monitor the process of implementation, and provide feedback and judg¬ment of the program’s effectiveness for continuous improvement. These unique features include context evaluation, ongoing process evaluation, and the model’s emphasis on engaging participants in the evaluation process to assess the quality of implementation and progress toward meeting specified goals; and use evaluation results for improvement and sustainability. The CIPP evaluation model can help provide adolescents with good habits of reading experiences and sustained interests in reading which in the long run, impacted positively in their academic performance across
According to the NCDA standard E.2.b the counselor is responsible for proper application, scoring, and interpretation (NCDA, 2015). As I am scoring and interpreting the assessment it is critical I take careful consideration for what the results mean. The ACA Code of Ethics standard E.9.b states, counselors must take caution when interpreting the results of the assessment (ACA, 2014). Once I have interpreted the results of the Holland’s Occupational Theme assessment, I will discuss with John the recommendations I have for his career life.
The final prong of the model is the “C” which stands for “Coping’ (p. 65). This is the solutions stage of the intervention. Many argue that it is the person being helped that has to formulate the solutions so that he or she will own them. Coping is important because it establishes a baseline or starting point where the person or group will move forward from. One could argue that it is at this point in the relationship that the counselor puts on the coaching hat because his or her purpose is now to ensure that the client is not only implementing the solutions discussed but is remaining loyal to them.
My value for today’s round will be health. Adolescents’ minds aren 't fully developed until the age twenty one. Without the fully developed brain the adolescent can’t make fully developed decisions. My criterion for today’s round will be frame of mind. An adolescent, when making decisions, only looks at the time frame of here and now.
When considering all of the possible ethical violations that could occur within a counseling relationship, what are the top three most common violation reports made? I found a study that determine the most ethical violations of counselors. After, reading the journal, I found that the professionals were not about to do their job efficiently. The professionals treated clients in areas they were not qualified for.
Coaches love assessments and many of the coaches in the room were certified to administer a gaggle of them. During the training, I made it very clear that, at Bregman Partners, we don’t use assessments for all the reasons I stated above. I told the coaches that one of our hallmarks is that we remain curious and we encourage our clients to remain curious, which makes them much stronger leaders. After the training, one of the coaches came up to me.
Instilling ethical writing habits in students is one of the most daunting tasks facing teachers today. With mounting classroom sizes and increasing expectations from parents and administration, there is often little time or energy left to devote to teaching subjects such as plagiarism awareness, proper quotation and citation skills not to mention delving into even deeper nuances within the field. These deeper topics, such as different citation styles and understanding when using which style would be most appropriate, is often just out of the question. Although it can be tough, most educators and administrators reading this would agree that there is significant work to be done to improve the way ethics in writing is taught.
Additionally, as a counselor, it is important to be genuine with whatever feedbacks one presents to the patient and what one believes regarding the situation of the client. Mrs. Perez believes the more authentic and genuine he is with her patients, the more help he will be able to offer the clients. As a counselor, it is important to have a fine and professional interaction with one 's client but boundaries must be maintained. Through this, a counselor is able to demonstrate their focus on helping the patients by showing the client that they understand their problems. It also through such engagements that counselor is able to use the non-judgmental attention that does not require words for illustration in helping the patient.
Research is vital in the field of counseling because it provides with proper data on the impact and effectiveness of counseling. Duffy and Chenail (2008) indicated, that quantitative research has helped counselor in the filed because it provides with values and dominated research can prove that treatment can be effective. Therefore, there has been studies prove
As I learn more about counseling theories, I realize that it is important for a counselor to not act as an expert on a client’s life, rather, this role is solely
One of those most challenging areas I have experience during my current placement is ethical decision-making. We studied many possible scenarios during our Values, Ethics and Professional Issues class, and discussed the various types of decision-making models to help guide us when having to make difficult decisions. While the class was invaluable, because it helped me identify my own biases, and also shed light on how I have made decisions in the past and how I can possibly make decisions in the future, I knew that having to make real-life decisions would not be so cut and dry. This placement has been challenging for me, because my ongoing assignment with one of my supervisors requires constant ethical decision-making, sometimes even in the
