The relationships that were created between each of the three crusades and the places that were negatively and positively affected were also major parts of the changes the Crusades had on the medieval world. After the Crusades ended, the most recent effect was the change of power between European countries. There has been an increase in the power of Venice, Genoa, and Pisa. “The Muslim world was itself divided into various Muslim sects and beset by political rivalries and competition between cities and regions.”
The crusades impacted the way we live today in many ways. In the outcome, there were both positives and negatives associated with the crusades. It was violent, deceased many, and turned cities into ruins but it also was a job opportunity for merchants and brought many new luxuries to certain places. Pope Urban II’s speech at Clermont in 1095 was a call to crusade given outdoors to the nobles, commoners and church leaders of the Western European Christians (the Franks). The people were moved by this speech and it changed history, launching the first crusade to capture Jerusalem from the Muslim Turks. After hearing Pope Urban II’s speech, thousands of Western European Christians were moved to embark on the dangerous journey and fight in the crusade. I believe the main reasons they were moved and persuaded to fight was; 1) they felt it was their Christian duty, 2) Pope Urban promised them absolution for their sins and 3) they felt compelled to defend Christianity, their holy land and the Eastern Christians.
The Crusades was a holy battle between the Christians and the Muslims. The Crusades was nine wars all together. With five major wars and four minor wars. Those wars still have effects on modern day society even after a thousand years. Were the results of the Crusades more positive or negative?
The fourth crusade is known as the trader crusade. In this crusade they attack the city of Constantinople by never making it to the holy land. The war or massacre was caused by the Christians fighting for their holy land back (Jerusalem) from the Muslims. The Crusades had a more positive affect than negative.
Secondly, much of the fighting in the first crusades took place in the Byzantine Empire’s lands, weakening the empire. Even with this said, at the turn of the 12th century, Constantinople, the capitol and center of the empire, was still the most impressive city in Europe. The wealth of the city was the largest in Europe, attracting many people from both Europe and Asia, resulting in a large population as well. The reason for the wealth came from the fact that Constantinople was the center of trade, between the East and West, as well as it seemed to be the center of the Christian world. The geographical location of Constantinople made it an extremely efficient spot to run a city as powerful as it was.
For the next two-hundred years, a total of nine crusades to place, all attempting to achieve the same goal, and win back the Holy Lands. For about two-hundred years the Crusades lead to the deaths of millions across Europe, but, it improved the lives of many because of the increase intellectual development, the spread of trade
The crusades happened because of many reasons. First the Turks took over the holy lands. Then the Byzantine Emperor wanted to regain the holy land, so he called for the church 's help. Pope Urban II didn 't want to look weak, so he arranged for the first crusade. That is the cause of the crusades.
