There once were two major basic religions in the ptolemaic period (when Egypt was ruled by a Greek family and the period ended with Cleopatra’s death) in Egypt and some of Europe which were Christianity and the Egyptian religion (Wasson). After Cleopatra's passing, Egyptians started to accept Christianity. These religions were head to head on followers and they both were no doubt followed by everyone in the main kingdoms. Some kings or rulers would force their people to believe in one of these two religions and were possibly more extremely followed.

Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit (The Bible). Horus on the other hand was not conceived through a virgin birth (Mark). After the death of Isis’ husband Osiris, Isis revived him, flew into a form of a kite bird and conceived Horus (Mark). Unlike Mary. it is not sure if Isis was already a virgin before she conceived Horus and it became a debated topic. Isis (an Egyptian deity) was worshipped in Rome (McGeough). She was wife and sister of Osiris, and mother or Horus (Mark). Isis was a protective force and stories of her protecting her son Horus were popular during a certain period in Egypt (McGeough). Isis became a universal goddess of power (McGeough).Although they may be different, The Greek have been greatly influenced by Egypt (McGeough). The images of Isis holding Horus were similar to Mary who is depicted holding baby Jesus (McGeough). Mary, mother of Jesus is a major figure of the Christian/Catholic church. Mary has been a famous major religious female in Christianity and has been known for about 2,000 years (“Christ, Jesus.”). Another similarity but by physical appearance is that both mothers have something significant “floating” over their heads Mary has a halo. Jesus was convicted of blasphemy and was treated horribly (Hutchinson). The Gods were asked to choose between Horus and Set (Osirus’ brother) (Mark).Every God said Horus, but one god by the names of Ra said that Horus was too young to rule (Mark). Horus and Set had to fight to see who was most fit to reign (Mark). Horus lose an eye and Set it badly hurt (Mark). Horus later becomes ruler (Mark). Horus was originally worshipped as a sky god and then obtained sun and moon god as well (Mark). Horus was associated with leaders of lower egypt (Mark). After violent conflicts, Horus was worshipped by the lower and upper sides of egypt and became mythical ruler over all (Mark). This act of defense is very similar to Christians who were persecuted and treated as scapegoats (Hutchinson).Jesus christ was a man and son of god and he had powers of god (“Jesus Christ”). Many thought he was a noble man, yet Jewish religious teachers disapproved of Jesus being messiah thinking it was an act for power (“Jesus Christ”). Many romans aided in execution even though Jesus could call up any man to defend (“Jesus Christ”). After the numerous executions and harsh treatment, Christian’s faith possibly became stronger.
