Christianity and Islam is said to be two of the most similar Abrahamic religions, as well they are two of the widest spread religions practiced around the world. Christianity means “follower of Christ a Greek word meaning messiah”, the term Islam means “submission to the commands and will of God” (Kateregga, Shenk 27). Christianity was founded in circa 30 CE and founded by Jesus Christ. Jesus Chris also referred to as the anointed one, was called out by God to spread the religion of Christianity and his book to the people of the land as a duty as the “son of God”. Nonetheless, Islam is a very peaceful religion and has many similarities to Christianity but remain very unique in their own ways. One major similarity is both religions belonging to the monotheistic religions family. Both religions believing that God the all mighty is the creator of the universe and its people. As well that god has created the beloved prophets such as Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Noah, John and Jesus. Both Christianity and Islam believe in the prophetic stories, the ten commandments and the moral teaching of the prophets are to be followed as well. Both religions as well believe that Jesus is the son of Virgin Mary, that he was an extraordinary prophet who preformed miracles and wonders as a treatment for the sick and the blind. It is also believed that Jesus Christ is the messiah. In Islam, Muslims love and respect Jesus for he was a prophet and a messenger to all humankind. Both religions believe in the crucifixion of Jesus for he sacrificed his life for the sins of others, in Islam it is believed that god took Jesus to him before he was crucified and sent down someone who looked very similar to Jesus in his place. It is also believed that one day Jesus will come back from heaven as the messiah to kill the Anti-Christ and spread the true religion once again before the day of judgment. Maureen miner, the author of “spiritual attachment and Christianity” claims that the essential difference among Christianity and Islam is “that Muslims approach god in a less direct, deviated fashion than Christians” (83). Miner continues to say that there are other reasons to which Christianity and Islam are different for instance the concept of “original sin” and the trinity. In Christianity it is belies that humans are born as sinners bearing the burning of the sinners Adam and Eve when they didn’t listen to God’s words. On the other hand, in Islam something different is believed, it is believed that in the Quran, God forgave their actions and god goes on to say in the Quran that no human should be held responsible for the sins or mistakes of others for it was not their own fault and it would be unfair to be punished for it as well.
