Christianity and Islam are two of the most well-known and practiced religions in the world today. Sadly, despite both religions’ teachings being against it, they are probably more known for the violence and conflict that they cause than their actual messages. The two religions have been hostile towards each other almost since they were both created, but they are much more similar than most people realize. I am sure that if you asked the average American today if Islam and Christianity are descended from the same lineage, they would most likely give an odd look and say “Of course not.” However, this is the truth, being as both religions were founded by the descendants of Abraham. Christianity formed by Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and Islam by the prophet Muhammad. Jesus taught that one should show mercy, give to the poor, be righteous, serve God only and to love everyone (even your enemies). Muhammad taught some of the same principles; serve only the one true god: Allah, give generously to the poor, do not partake in wine and gambling, and if you live life according to the word of Allah, when you die, you will be rewarded with Paradise in the next life. This is similar to the promised reward of heaven for Christians who follow the teachings of Jesus during their life.
