According to The Register, there areapproximately 4,300 religions in the world. Islam and Christianity arethe two world’slargest religions. They both have many followers from all over the world.They are each said to be founded by a prophet.Islam’s foundingprophet is Mohammed, and Christianity’s founding prophet is Jesus Christ of Nazareth. These two religions both originating from the middle easthave many common characteristics, and many differences.The two largest religions in the world, Islam and Christianity, have many common characteristics. In both religions, Jesus is said to come back to earth to destroythe antichristand this act will highlight that people are living withinthe last days (onfaith). Lastly, both Islam andChristianity believe in a finaldestination. This destination is either heaven or hell. Heaven is the paradisewhile hell is likean eternalprison(onfaith). While there are many similarities,there are many differences between the two religions as well. One of the biggest differences between Christianity and Islam is thedifferentviews on Jesus. Whilethey both believe Jesus existed, Christianity is the only religion that refers to him as the son of Godor God in the flesh. In the Islamicreligion, Jesus was onlya prophet. He was not considered to be the Son of God(North American Mission Board). Anotherbigdifference regarding Jesus is the crucifixion.InChristianity it is believed that he was crucified so that mankind’ssin would be atoned for, while in the Islamic religion, this crucifixiondid not take place.
