There are many religions in the world so picking is difficult. Two major religions are Islam and Judaism. In this easy, Judaism and Islam will be compared and contrasted so picking one or the other might be easier.
Even though Islam and Judaism are both similar, they differ from where and when they were started. Islam was started in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, around 160 A.D. Judaism was started in Israel, north of Mecca. Some key historic events of Islam are: When the Prophet Muhammad was born in 570, 610 when Muhammad preached to the Muslims in Mecca, and when Muhammad and other Muslims flee medina in 622. Jews believe in a God named Yahweh while Muslims believe in a God called Allah. Both of these Gods are similar deities but not the same god. The sacred texts of Islam are the Qur’ans, but Jews use the Torah as their sacred texts. They both have different books but they still study the words from god. The beliefs of Islam are the 5 pillars. They include: Shahada, the confirmation of faith. Salah, praying 5 times per day. Zakāt, giving money to the poor. Sawm, fasting during the time of Ramadan. Hajj, pilgrimage to Mecca. The main beliefs of Judaism is the ten commandments. They include: I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Honor thy father and thy mother. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife. Even though they are different, they can be interpreted in similar ways. The celebrations/rituals of Judaism are Purim, Hanukkah, Shavat, Passover, and Yom Kippur. Some Islamic celebrations/rituals are Ramadan and Eid- Al Fitr at the end of the fasting of Ramadan. Bar and Bat Mitzvah are 2 examples for Jewish holidays.
