Judaism and Islam
Since Islam was founded it’s relationship has historically been tumultuous with Judaism. From the 600’s C.E., when Islam was founded, the two religions have fought and the conflict continues today. Jews of Muhammad’s time, the founder of Islam, rejected Muhammad’s claims of religious and political leadership and Muslims claimed to be God’s new chosen people, ultimately beginning this everlasting conflict. The belief systems of Islam and Judaism and the goals of there adherents are in opposition. Simple disagreement eventually led to violent religious warfare and sparked hostility between Muslims and Jews. From this initial exposure is where Muhammad drew many of his views and subsequently Islam’s view on Judaism, as Muhammad’s perception was largely written in the Koran and Islamic texts. Overall, Judaism holds irresolute positions in the Koran, which instructs those unsure of their Islamic teachings to seek the Jews who read the book that was before them, which would have the Torah and the Talmud. Furthermore, the Koran instructs that Jews, Christians, and individuals who believe in God and live righteous lives will have nothing to fear, possibly meaning that they will also receive deliverance along with Muslims, however the Islamic holy book also proposes that Jews are rebellious, dishonest, violent, greedy, arrogant, jealous, and congruently proposes that Jews altered their scripture to disgrace Islam and Muhammad.
