B100 is a radio station that is licensed to Muscatine, Iowa but broadcasts to both of the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids areas. The station itself is listened to by an audience on 99.7 FM. The show provides its listeners with today's top hits in the music industry, comical segments, giveaways, and news updates. One of the more popular and favorable podcast is the Second Date Update hosted by DJ’s Brooke and Jubal. The podcast was such a hit that other radio stations in different areas such as Seattle, started airing the segment as well. The hit podcast can also be found online. The two conducted their study by observing whether or not watching television had an influence on people's attitudes. They were intrigued to find out if watching television could changed the perception of one's view on everyday life. Cultivation theory suggest that heavy consumers of television and media are more susceptible to believing that media messages are valid and real. With cultivation theory comes limitations and criticisms. It is criticized that one wanting to reveal the effects of this theory to their research, must rely on establishing viewing patterns. However, those patterns can not determine causality. Furthermore, due to the fact that cultivation is a cumulative long term effect, it can be more challenging to test. Two different questionnaires will be developed and given to two different groups of people. One survey will be given to the fans of the talkshow that are ages 25-35 and are single. The survey will have a series of questions to discover how frequently the listeners tunes into the podcast, how many dates they have been on in the past year, how many they plan to go on in the next year, and their feelings and viewpoints on dating. Another survey will be given to people ages 25-35 that are singles as well that do not listen to the show but live in the same area. This questionnaire will be asking how many dates they went on in the past year, how many they plan to go on in the future, and their feelings and viewpoints of dating as well.
