Serial is a podcast that first premiered in 2014 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. The podcast, produced by Sarah Koenig, is a spin-off of the radio program This American Life and tells the story of a 1999 murder case in Baltimore, Maryland. The story is told through a series of episodes, each one delving deeper into the case and the investigation. The podcast uses a variety of rhetorical devices to create suspense and engage the audience.
We tried to make a determination ourselves as to guilt or innocence. I believe that the evidence showed that Adnan is innocent and Jay Wilds and Jay’s attorney/lawyer were responsible for the wrongful conviction of Adnan. They wrongfully convicted Adnan just to get a conviction for the crime, so they no longer had to deal with the case. They talked about stuff in court,
It is hard to conclude for certain Adnan Syed’s innocence or guilt in this particular case. All of the evidence given seems to be very circumstantial or thin. For example, take Jay Wilds’ testimony. Much of the State’s case is reliant on this and his credibility as an eyewitness, yet they allow him to repeatedly change his recount of the story. In total, Wilds retells his account of what happens six different times and each time varying details start to shift.
People all around America are on the edge of their seats in anticipation for the next top Netflix series, Making a Murderer. The excitement all started on December 18, 2015 when the first episode of a famous Wisconsin case was released. This case was the 2005 trial of Steven Avery, a known Wisconsin man who was wrongfully convicted at the age of 22. In 1985, Avery was arrested, tried, and convicted of first-degree sexual assault against Penny Bernstein and was later sentenced to 35 years in prison. During the time he spent locked up, he stood firm on the idea that he never committed the crime and was an innocent man.
Her infatuation with the case begins with a call from Adnans best friends older sister Rabia. Koenig looked more into the case and describes it as a “Shakespeare Mashup” in episode 1. Rabia also informs Koenig that she believed Adnans lawyer had botched the case on purpose in order to get more money for the appeal, which enhanced Koenigs interest in the case even more. Throughout the Serial episodes Koenig begins to stray further away from her claim of doing the case out of pure interests. She begins to show bias towards Adnan.
It is October 31, 2005. This is the day Teresa Halbach went missing. The disappearance of Teresa Halbach marked the beginning of a long and controversial conviction of both Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey. Although the guilt or innocence of the two is still a hot topic, one must understand the criminal investigation that occurred. Knowing what steps investigators took and how they conducted each method is important to understand because this is what lead investigators to Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.
During Adnan’s trial, there were many flaws that could’ve contributed to an unfair trial such as a bias jury, an attorney who made mistakes, and the failure to investigate other murder
Police corruption is not something that is frequently talked about, and there are definitely very few films about the subject. One such film is Serpico, which is based off of the life of NYPD Officer Frank Serpico. The movie shows the issues of police corruption, and how the police subculture works to keep it covered. The police subculture is a very complicated and closed thing.

The reason why I pick Oprah Winfrey for my individual is because she is a successful African American women that makes a different in people life. Oprah believes that every young female to women can be successful. She don’t believe that any women should deal with abusive relationship. Even doe Oprah had got rape at a young age and pregnant, she still push through and became successful. She let where she came from and what she been through be her motivation.
Serial is a Podcast that investigates a true-life story over a series of twelve episodes. The Podcast takes a look at the fifteen year old murder case of Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s ex-boyfriend was the main suspect and later found guilty of murder for Hae Min Lee’s death and sentenced to life in prison. Serial is hosted by Sarah Koenig an American journalist, public radio personality, and one of the producers of the radio program “This American Life”. The Serial Podcast uses rhetorical devices to appeal to its primary audience by using ethos to establish credibility, pathos to create an emotional response within the audience, and logos to support and poke holes in the murder case.

Corruption is a type of misconduct and offense in which the police break their contract and oath by abusing their power for personal gain or even for departmental gain. Examples of types of police corruption a. Bribery- police officer receives bribes so that they cannot write tickets for people who have gone against the law for example, from prostitutes and gambling, bribery does not only affect the united states but its world spread, examples of other countries with highest percentage of bribery are Pakistan and France. b. Assault on suspects- police officers use excessive force on suspects leading to injuries and at times suspects end up dying in their custody. Some police officers have been charged with murder of suspects in their custody.
