Serial by Sarah Koerig was the first podcast series to come to listeners. Released in October 2014. Sarah reported on the tragic case of a high school girl by the name of Hae Min Lee's random disappearance. She was found deceased in Leakin Park and Baltimore, Maryland in 1999. Sarah was brought into this case by somebody that was a friend of the person that was convicted. Adnan Syed was 17 years old and was sentenced to life in prison charged in the murder of Hae, his ex-girlfriend. Sarah decided to dig deep into the story and get the side of the “murderer” that everyone thought was the bad guy. Adnan is introduced and is instantly not the typical “murderer” that most people would say. He’s a nice, kind, charming fellow who seems to never be able to hurt a fly. With all this information, Sarah was able to build a strong foundation for this case. As the series continues, Sarah takes the audience through hell storms on whether or not Adnan actually committed this heinous act against Hae. Jay's story wasn’t consistent enough to point all fingers at Adnan. Jay's story changes plenty of times but is always ruled out. Mr. S also is a big piece to this case due to his claim. “I grabbed a beer out of my refrigerator. It was a 22-ounce Budweiser. I was drinking it on my way back to the school where I work at, and had to go to the bathroom, so I pulled over and I went further into the woods so nobody would see me urinate, and when I discovered what looked like a body–” (Leakin park, Sarah) Mr. S stopped at this random spot and went back exactly 127 feet back to do his business and mysteriously found Hae.
