Aiden Livingston English III Mrs. Duncan 11 Mar 2024 The Case of Adnan Syed People are wrongly convicted due to poor police work every single day. “975 innocent people are being locked up every year” (Home). In 1999, Haemin Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was brutally strangled in her own car. The person accused of the act was Adnan Syed, a 17-year-old who also attended Woodlawn High. One of Adnan’s close friends, Rabia Chaudry, sent Sarah Koenig a letter trying to convince Sarah of Adnan’s innocence. Sarah then created a podcast dedicated to bringing attention to her case. Sarah conversed with many witnesses who had information about Hae’s murder. Sarah questioned Jay Wilds, who supposedly helped bury Hae. Adnan was clearly innocent …show more content…

“Because in our files we have a lot of things, evidence they collected that got sent off and we don’t have reports for everything and we are curious about the results that we don’t have and whether or not those exist and just why they’re not in the files that we have’’ (“Inconsistencies Episode 4”). For example “The Liquor bottle for one” (“Inconsistencies Episode 4”). The police openly ignored evidence that, if added up, could have possibly proved Adnan’s innocence in the murder of Hae Min Lee. The police use the excuse that the evidence, like the beer bottle, was outside of the crime scene so they do not need to run a test for DNA even though one of the possible suspects drinks that kind of beer. The detectives were too lazy to solve the death of a high school student properly and decided to make another student pay for the crime and lose years of his life. In retrospect, Adnan Syed should not have been able to be convicted over a case that was put together by lazy detectives who could not even do their job. There were way too many unanswered questions to come to a conclusion on who the murderer
