A child’s development is based on their environment, ones’ cultures and many other factors but, most importantly it is their connection with their caregivers because a parental love is what will help them grow into the person they are to be. In the film Babies, a 2010 French document showed us four newborns through their first year after birth. Since the babies are from different cultures and are from around the world, the film shows how they were raised, the community they lived in and their everyday lives. Two specific babies that were raised completely different would be Marti who is from Tokyo, Japan and Bayar from Bayanchandmani, Mongolia. Mari lives in an urban area and Bayar lives in a rural area. Although they come from different cultures the film shows us the several customs and practices that can influences their development. The theorists Jean Piaget and Mari Montessori would be able to explain their viewpoints on the development of Mari and Bayar.
Bayar and Mari’s development was very different because of their culture and environment. Bayar’s environment was based on nature, his connection with his brother and mother. In the film we see

He believed that development is determined by environmental effects. Comparing Bayar and Mari, Piaget would favor Bayar’s environment more because his mother would allow Bayar to explore on an everyday basis. In the text, Piaget stated “development is an active construction process, in where children, through their own activities build increasingly differentiated and comprehensive cognitive structures” (Crain, 2010, p. 12). Which means that children must interact with the environment in order to develop causing them to build cognitive structures. As I mentioned previously of Bayar being wrapped in a bed not allowing him to crawl, let alone move, he was still able to learn how to crawl with no help from his mother or
