Technology and the use of social media have grown in the more recent years, and as result bullying is becoming more of an urgent issue. Bullying has been a present problem in schools but was separated from other areas of a kid’s life because it would only occur at school. Now that more children are becoming interactive with social media the bullying is following these kids outside of school and which is referred to as cyberbullying. Social media has become a part of most people’s everyday lives. People can check their social media accounts anytime they want from just about anywhere they want. These outcomes can be anything from kids not wanting to go to school or even resulting in these children committing suicide. The most important among these outcomes is the rise in suicides due to cyberbullying. An article by done nobullying.com stated, “Britain have found half of the suicides among youth related to bullying. According to a study by ABC News over 30,000 children stay home every day due to the fear of being bullied. Bullying can be related to physical, emotional, cyberbullying, and sexting circulating nude or suggestive pictures of a person or messages” (nobullying.com). As a result of all these cases, parents and families of these bullied victims are starting to sue the schools for not doing enough to protect or prevent any of this from happening. People feel that the schools should be held responsible for the actions that are occurring between their students in this manner. However, it is important to ask who is really responsible when situations like this occur. The parent is responsible for the well-being of their children and watching over them. The school should have accountability of this since some of the bullying's occur on school grounds and between students at the school.
