In the book The Great Gatsby there are many different relationships that make the book what it is. These being good, bad, and most resulting in the inevitable death of Jay Gatsby. The Great Gatsby introduces us to many different characters. The narrator, Nick Carraway, does a good job at telling us who these characters are and how they act. One of the most important characters being Jay Gatsby. He is the main character, and all the events in the book are what lead us to his death. Another character is Daisy Buchanan; she is the woman who Gatsby is in love with and has an affair with. Next, is Tom Buchanan who is Daisy's husband. His actions are harsh, and he does many evil things just because he can. Nick tells us about these characters and their lives to show us an insight of the events that led to the death of his best friend. “‘Oh, you want too much!” she cried to Gatsby. “I love you now isn’t that enough? I can’t help what’s past.’”(Fitzgerald 102). She fell back in love with Gatsby, but was she ever truly falling back in love with him or just trying to get back at Tom for cheating on her? Being with Gatsby was just a fling for her, but she made him think he had a chance to get back with her. In the end she ended up losing her feelings for Gatsby. Tom and Gatsby talking, “‘She didn’t like it.” “Of course she did.” “She didn’t like it.” “She didn’t have a good time.”’ (Fitzgerald 109). After Gatsby showed her his house and clothes she thought about the life they could have had and she cried. In the end after going to one of his parties she realizes that the life he lives with the parties and bootlegging isn’t for her.
