Darkness In Judaism

There is a problem in the world that should be obvious to us, but manages to be hard to see. It is that we do not want to see because if we see we cannot pretend that everything is okay. What is darkness? What is light? This passage shows us that the light is the Son of God. But why is the light here? He did not come to pass judgment, but to save us. The darkness is self-protection; which is an effect of the fall. We lost our ability to connect with each other as people. In order to defend ourselves, we lash out at each other because we don’t want to be found guilty. We love the darkness because we feel that it protects us from the light and truth of God. It protects us from actually knowing and acknowledging that we are not ok with who we are and what we are doing. A related piece of this protection is the protection the darkness gives us from someone who actually is trying to find us, loving us, or exposing who we really are.
