A great example of this is Darren Osborne, who stated “I’m going to kill all muslims”. Osborne is a forty seven year old, white male who mauled a van into a Muslim practicers at the Finsbury Park Mosque in north London. The result caused a man to lose his life, as well as eleven injured individuals. One way term terrorism is defined is “the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilian, in pursuit of political aims”. In this instance, the very definition of terrorism is exactly what Osborne enacted on innocent muslims due to his islamophobia and extreme hate for muslim. Well it is for certain he was not painted as a terrorist. Instead of being rightfully labeled as the terrorist he is, Osborne was described as an innocent victim in all of this. The Times, one of the many conservative newspaper outlets in the United Kingdom, depicted Osborne as a “jobless, lone wolf”, “a father of four” who has “mental health problems”. Is it not quite shocking that a white man who performed an act of terror to intentionally murder innocent muslims is only labeled as mentally unstable? Actually, no, it is not.
