David Gore was a serial rapist and killer and was along with his cousin, Fred Waterfield were known as the “Killing Cousins”. All of the rapes and murders took place in Florida. According some reports, Gore and Waterfield initially had plans to just kidnap and rape a woman. That soon turned into the rape and murder of the first victim, Ying Hua Ling and her mother Hsiang Huang Ling. Soon after, Barbara Ann Byer, Angelica LaVallee, and Judy Kay Daley. Gore confessed to the murders in November of 1983 (Holsman, 2012). Prior to the murder of the last victim, Lynn Elliot, David Alan Gore and his cousin Fred Waterfield picked up two girls from Vero Beach and kidnapped them (Treadway, 2010). The other girl, Regan Martin was able to escape. A 15 year old boy witnessed the shooting and made an anonymous tip to the authorities and because of that, they were caught and arrested. This was the conclusion of the murders of seven women and the rapes of six women (Treadway, 2010).
On August 10, 1983, a grand jury indicted Gore on first degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of sexual battery. In December of that same year, Gore led authorities to the remainder of the bodies of Barbara Ann Byer, Hsiang Huang Ling and her daughter Ying Hau Ling. He then admitted to killing three other women and raping two women. In January of 1984, the trial is moved from Vero Beach to St. Petersburg and a jury recommended Gore to receive the death penalty.
