Every year, over 250,000 women go missing. Some women are runaways who are trying to escape abuse (Brownworth). Many times, these women are kidnapped by people and are put through circumstances one could never imagine. Some of these women may escape or get their kidnapper caught. However, some of these women never make it out of these situations and are killed or drugged and dropped on the side of the road. In the case of David Parker Ray, he was one of these kidnappers who would do these types of things to women. David Parker Ray dubbed the “Toy Box Killer” would kidnap, rape, and torture women, and in the case of more than fifty women, they were never found after he took them. “Peggy was a cute popular girl, while David was a quiet loner” (Campbell). Peggy never had any troubles in school and seemed to stay out of trouble. Because he was shy around girls, Ray, on the other hand, was bullied by other kids, but he never caused trouble in school which meant the teachers never thought to help him (BE3). He married a girl a couple of years after high school, and they ended up having a child, David. Ray was not a very good husband and the two divorced, giving Ray custody of the child. However, Ray eventually left to work and left the kid with his mother. Shortly after, Ray found another woman, married, divorced after a short few months (SC4). He moved back in with his mother, and after a few years, he found another wife. He had another child, Glenda Jean, with this girl. Glenda Jean loved Ray from when she was very young, and she later changed her name to Jesse. He eventually abandoned his family and ended up living on the road for a few years using his mechanic skills to stay afloat. He eventually returned to his family, but his marriage ended after many years when Ray showed he could not help his wife. Ray even ended up marrying a fourth time. In this marriage, they stayed in a trailer in Elephant Butte, New Mexico, which later became known as the “Toy Box.” They later bought a second property in Phoenix, Arizona, but Ray traveled back and forth.
