Throughout the story there are multiple different goals and tasks that were carried through with. Out of the many goals in the book the most distinguished objective is to kill whoever killed June’s brother, Metias, who died after Day, a criminal who has eluded government, stabbed him after robbing a hospital with plague cures. June is an investigator and now will try to put things right. She begins to carry out the task by passing the word around that “somebody” has many plague cures and wants to give them to him. Then he says, “ Meet him at midnight, tonight, at the ten-second place.”( 71) Only Day would know where this is. Day goes there, but as usual, he is hidden, he then taps into the jumbotron and communicates with June. June is an aware person and immediately takes mental notes on Day’s tone and several different factors. Day also took note on the person’s appearance. He sees how the knots were tied buttons and any other distinguishing factors to take note of. When June confirms that the boy is Day she makes the important decision of the way the republic will capture him. She informs Thomas by telling him, “ Medic trucks will be at his house tomorrow. We’re to take the inhabitants to Central Hospital. Then Send for extra troops. I want backup when Day shows up to protect his family.” (142) This is an important decision because if it goes wrong she will be held accountable. In the end of the book June portrays character by taking more decisions after Day’s execution date moves down a day and is eight hours away instead of thirty two. After she finds this out she says, “ Change of plans. Otherwise, the boy who didn’t kill my brother will die tonight.” (280) This shows June is confident and always ready to take important matters in her
