Progressivism Essay Can one imagine a place where children are working in minefields and are not even given good pay? That was exactly what happened before the Progressive Movement took place. The experience of workers led to the Progressive Movement in Industrial America because of long hours but low wages, dangerous working conditions and child labor, and unsanitary conditions. To begin with, the experience that led workers to the Progressive Movement in Industrial America was because of the long working hours but the low wages they were given. To continue, the experiences that also led workers to the Progressive Movement in Industrial America were because of the dangerous working conditions that workers faced and a big issue called child labor. For example, in Document 1, the author states that “young boys” were working “near coal mines” and “breathing in coal dust”. They were “two beaker boys of 15 years” (Document 1). One was “badly burned and the other smothered to death”, and they were just children working in dangerous conditions (Document 1). Also, in document 4, the author states that the building in which the workers were working has been reported as “unsafe in account of the insufficiency of its exits.” Shortly after, the whole building caught on fire and many people died. These types of dangerous conditions given to children are terrifying, and professional adults should be doing this kind of dangerous work, such as working near coal mines and working in buildings that don’t have proper exits.
