The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was written by William shakespeare in 1595. The play is about the tragic love of the two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo had met Juliet at her family's party, when Romeo laid eyes on Juliet he knew that he was in love. Some say that love is deadly and in this case it is. As time passes, Romeo and Juliet fall more and more in love a Monague is killed by the hands of a Capulet and if i couldn’t get worse Romeo kills a capulet which is the reason he is banished from Verona. One of these characters just so happens to be Mercutio, while he is alive in the play he makes witty remarks and loves to mock Romeo with puns. In act one when Romeo markes his love for Rosaline, Mercutio remarks the line “If love be rough with you, be rough with love;Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.” Even in Mercutio’s death in act 3 he still manages to make a joke of his death. A part of Mercutio’s speech as he dies goes a little something like this, “I am peppered, I warrant, for this world. Now nobody would have guessed that Romeo could be a comedic character. No, Romeo doesn’t tell jokes but the way he was written makes him seem like a silly teenage boy. He’s filled with drama and he is extremely hot headed, not really the depiction of a hero now is it? Well with his hot headed attitude the audience would probably find it hard to sympathise with him. He most likely is giving the audience a whole lot of second hand embarrassment, the audience will most likely find it hard to feel for him when he’s making terrible decisions. It’s unsurprising that someone would find him revolting but in a way his character is
